Egis contributes again to safer roads in Ireland

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) working with An Garda Síochána and Dublin Tunnel operator Egis announce Ireland’s first average speed camera enforcement system has gone live on the 1st June 2017.

Traffic levels through Dublin Tunnel have increased by 40% over the last 5 years and as a result there is statistically an increase in the potential for collisions and incidents. Average speed camera enforcement systems seek to mitigate this potential because statistics show that there is typically a 50% reduction in the collision rate once in operation.

Egis is already a significant contributor to the safety of Irish roads, being part of the GoSafe project since 2010. The Irish authorities have carried out an assessment of the system: the benefits are five times greater than the costs. Every year, the system saves 23 lives, it avoids 40 serious accidents, and generates €70 million in savings for Irish society. We wish the samev kind of success for the Dublin Tunnel’s new equipment.
